When implementing Preference Manager, you can select either marketing lists or contact fields as preferences (areas of interest). If you are using marketing lists, each preference in the sign up and preference pages must be linked to a marketing list in Microsoft Dynamics. This link allows Preference Manager to know which marketing list to add or remove contacts to/from based on their preferences. Let’s look at the example below:
Jenny is a new contact and is signing up to receive content. She would like to learn more about Technology and Environment. She goes through the sign-up process, receives the confirmation email and confirms.
Her contact gets created in Microsoft Dynamics linked to the Technology and Environment marketing lists.
She has been receiving the content for a while now and wants to change her preferences. She logs in to Preference Manager, removes Environment from her preferences and adds Tax and Capital Market.
When she clicks Update, the changes to her contact will be updated in Microsoft Dynamics, as well as in the marketing lists her contact is linked to.
Note: Preference Manager will only work with marketing lists if it is setup for it. The setup is done during the implementation and clients are given the option to use marketing lists or contact fields.
Note: Preference Manager will only work with static marketing lists, not dynamic lists.
Note: This functionality has only been introduced in version 2.1 and released to clients in August 2018. Talk to your account manager if you wish to implement to your Preference Manager website.
