Gmail and Yahoo Mail announced that they will be tightening the requirements for bulk email senders over the next few months. To be able to reach these inboxes, it is important to make sure that your domains are compliant.
These requirements revolve around DKIM and DMARC authentication. Both of these authentication methods have been recommended as best practices for a long time, and they are now becoming mandatory for incoming emails into Gmail and Yahoo inboxes.
Full details of these new requirements can be found here:
Signing with DKIM:
We recently completed a system-wide audit of active domains and identified those which are not aligned with DKIM. Over 90% of our customers are already signing with DKIM.
If you are sending from a domain which is not DKIM-aligned, our team will reach out to you before 14th February 2024 to alert you and outline next steps. We will work closely with your IT team to ensure that you are fully compliant.
Signing with DMARC:
To check if your domain is DMARC-aligned, please follow these steps:
- Identify the root domain in your sending domain:
- Navigate to MxToolbox via this URL: https://mxtoolbox.com/dmarc.aspx
- Input your root domain and click DMARC Lookup
If your domain has a valid DMARC record, MxToolbox will return a positive result which outlines the full DNS entry. In this case, no additional steps are needed as your domain is fully compliant:
If your domain is not DMARC-aligned, MxToolbox will return "No DMARC Record found". In this scenario, please reach out to your IT team and request that a DMARC record be applied to your root domain:
NB: If you are in the process of configuring DKIM, please only apply a relaxed DMARC record (i.e. p=none). Once DKIM is implemented, the policy can be upgraded to p=quarantine or p=reject.
