What are Sub Questions?
Sub Questions enable you to create a relationship between questions in your survey. Based on the response to a previous question, you can use Sub Questions to collect additional information from your respondents.
For example, you are hosting a networking dinner and need to collect dining preferences from your clients. One of the options is steak. A natural secondary question would be "how would you like your steak cooked?". This question is specific to an answer of a previous question, and wouldn't make sense to display if the respondent selected risotto.
With Sub Questions, you can easily associate questions to make the survey easier to navigate for your respondents.
How to set up Sub Questions:
- Create your associated survey questions in the survey builder.
- Open the secondary question and click "Show" to expand the settings.
In this example, the secondary question is "How would you like your steak cooked?" - Select the checkbox next to the "Sub Question" setting.
- In the "Select Parent Question" drop-down, select the question whose response will drive whether or not your secondary question is displayed to the respondent. Please note that the parent question must be a multiple choice question.
In this example, the parent question is "For Main:" - In the "Specify Parent Answer" drop-down, select the multiple choice answer(s) which - when selected in the survey - displays the sub question to your respondents. If the sub question should render when any answer is selected in the parent question, leave the "Specify Parent Answer" area blank.
In this example, the parent answer is "Steak Frites" - Save your changes by clicking "Update" and then "Save".
- Open your survey in your browser and verify that your survey is behaving as expected.
